Consecration of Love created for the annual project Love in the City is a performance presented on one of the most touristic and crowded places of Amsterdam. With 'love incense' I seek to stimulate the senses in order to activate associations and feelings of love. For this performance I wanted to work with people who embody missing, lack and searching for love. I invited female ex-prostitutes to spread the incense. For the burning of the incenses I searched for real old silver incense holders and asked several churches to cooperate. Pastoor Pierre Valkering was open for a dialogue and he suggested starting the performance at his church. After the proclamation in the Vredeskerk by pastor Valkering we walked to and around the Leidseplein. While walking these women spread the 'incense of love' and end the consecration with distributing and lightning hunderds of incense-sticks together with people on the square.
